Ten to twenty years ago, buying a used car was tricky. There were only a couple of mainstays at the top of the used car reliability charts. Fortunately for us it’s not the 1990s. A lot has changed, thanks to competition and a financial crisis. Car brands that were not in renowned for their resale reputation suddenly have emerged as front runners for both style and quality. Kia and Hyundai came on shore, and not everyone had the highest expectation from them. Familiar names like GM and Chrysler were forced to step their games.
Ford has also stepped up their game, having reemerged with excellent selling models. Remember the Ford 500?! Neither do I… The likes of the old Escort and Tempo are gone. Today’s Ford lineup is fresh, stylish and reliable; it appears that is are ready to lap Toyota and Honda on that race. With fewer brands to manage, seems, they are better utilizing their resources to produce cars and trucks that will launch the company into the future.
We’re going to take a look at three models to see what’s new and fresh, and what is the fresh staple of the Ford lineup.
The Fusion sparked the turnaround for Ford. The last time they changed the game like this was the 80s Taurus. The moment they released the first generation, I knew they were on to something. Fast forward a few years and now they have the most stylish and feature rich midsize sedan on the market. From the front it looks like a Mustang. From the back, the tailpipes finished into the bumpers makes for a clean sporty look that will continue to look good down the road.

The Ford Escape is another model that redefined its segment. The Toyota RAV4 may have started this crossover category, but the Escape took the idea and left Toyota in the dust. This is by far the freshest crossover available today. It has the most innovative features, including SYNC and a foot operated tailgate!! Yes, a foot operated tailgate!! So when you’re carrying something with both hands (which happens more than we think) you can wave your foot to open the powered tailgate.
Best in class engine options and fuel economy make this a clear favorite too. You can even get this in a hybrid. This is your weekend warrior crossover!
One of the oldest models in the Ford lineup, I say “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it”. There’s a reason that this is one of the bestselling full-sized pickup truck in America. It has awesome styling, rugged build, and a reputation that doesn’t quit. It’s available in all cab configurations and is available with many of the engine and convenience options you want.
If you only haul from time to time, consider the F-150 with the EcoBoost V6. Long story short, it has the power of a V8 when you need it, and the fuel economy of a V6 when you don’t. It really is the best of both worlds.
No matter what’s your need, there is a fresh, barely used Ford for you. We didn’t get to cover other great choices from the Ford lineup like the Explorer or Taurus. Regardless, with awesome styling and great reliability, you can rest assured that your choice in a Ford is a solid choice that will serve you well for years and years to come.
